“We don’t accomplish anything in this world alone. Whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life---all the weaving of individual threads from one to another that create something.”
- Sandra Day O'Connor is a retired Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, serving from her appointment in 1981 by Ronald Reagan until her retirement in 2006. She was the first woman to be appointed to the Court.

Research data proves over and over again that women have an innate sense to connect. Connectedness is essential for women and the need to connect with other women can’t be ignored. No matter what station in life this principle applies to all women. It allows us to gain a sense of deeper fulfillment in overall life and is a powerful tool when we take advantage of it. Strong networks, mentors/coaches, spiritual balance, and purpose all lend themselves to more professional achievement such as promotions and higher pay. But also contributes to greater satisfaction in all we do in life, whether working inside or outside the home. When our ability to connect is put into use it lends itself to higher achievement in our performance, teams, overall profession, our service to community, family and can easily be put to work on a daily basis within all aspects of our lives.
Schedule time for yourself. That’s where connection begins. No one “has it all”. At least not all at one time and remains sane! We all make choices that lead us on a journey to fulfill our purpose, as diverse as that is. Our destination on this journey is different for every other woman. But one thing for sure, we all unite on this path somewhere along the way, one connection at a time.
Some things to think about:
- In 2004 it was formally reported that there is a connection between gender diversity on corporate boards and financial performance.
- Companies with the most women board directors and in their management outperformed those with the least on return on sales by 16 percent and return on invested capital by 26 percent. –Catalyst, 2014
- 40% of all privately owned businesses are women-owned.
- Women’s brains show activity in more area distributed across the brain than men’s brains when engaged in tasks such as problem solving situations.
- Women’s leadership strengths are exactly the skills that management theorists, consultants, and corporate leaders say are critical in the new global economy.
- 65% of women work outside the home and are raising a family.
